About Kansas State University
Kansas State University is a major American Land Grant University. It is an accredited public university with more than 200 majors and options for Bachelor’s degree students, 65 Master’s degree programs, 43 Doctoral programs, and 12 Graduate certificate programs. K-State has an enrollment of 22,000 students, including 1,100 students who come from 90 countries.
Excellent Services for International Students
The beautiful International Student Center offers students a home away from home and a place for their meetings and celebrations. The staff of the ISC are prepared to help you with questions concerning visas, travel, work, and cultural adjustment. Undergraduate Admission
If you have a good academic record from high school, but your English is not yet at an 80 ibt, 213 cbt, or 550 pbt score on the TOEFL test, with minimum part scores, you can be admitted to an undergraduate program at K-State and begin your studies in the English Language Program. (For minimum part scores, see www.k-state.edu/elp/testing/ugadmit.htm.) You can begin your degree studies as soon as your English meets university requirements.
The English Language Program
The ELP can admit people who are non-native speakers of English, are at least 17 years old, read and write in their own language, and know the Roman alphabet. The ELP cannot accept students who have never studied English. For more information, go to www.k-state.edu/elp.
A Variety of Housing Choices
There is always room for you in a residence hall (dormitory). You can choose dormitories that are all-male, all-female, or co-ed. Space is available all year for enrolled students, even during holidays and vacations, but only in Moore and Haymaker Halls. Most halls offer double rooms along with computer rooms, recreational space, and laundry facilities. The room rate includes three meals a day except for Sunday evenings. You can also live in university apartments at the Jardine Apartment Complex. Different kinds of apartments are available with or without furniture. There are several play areas and open areas in Jardine for children. For more information, go to www.housing.k-state.edu/jardine/index.php. There are also many apartments and houses near campus. A Friendly and SafeCommunity
Manhattan, Kansas, a city of 49,000, is known for the friendliness of its people and its beautiful natural environment. Manhattan, Kansas, has a four-season climate, with wonderful, mild springs, hot summers, cool and colorful autumns, and cold winters with some snow. Manhattan has many public parks and tennis courts, a zoo, a regional shopping mall, international food stores, and public golf courses. On summer evenings you can listen to free concerts in the city park. If you enjoy the outdoors, you can explore the recreational trail that circles the city.
